BE DISCREET

Scriptural Text:
Proverbs 14:35 (AMPC)
“The king’s favor is toward a wise and discreet servant, but his wrath is against him who does shamefully.”

Being discreet means being careful and intentional with the information that you share or actions that you take, in order to maintain privacy, avoid unnecessary attention, or protect yourself or others. It involves being aware of the potential consequences of what you say or do, and making conscious decisions about how much to reveal and to whom.

A discreet person is mindful of how his actions might be perceived by others, and therefore takes steps to minimize any negative consequences. This may involve using caution when sharing personal information, avoiding gossip or speculation, and maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.

To be discreet also requires the display of tact, a sense of responsibility, and good judgment. These traits were evident in the life of Joseph when he stood before Pharaoh. His ability to communicate clearly the strategy given by God for the preservation of the nation caused the king to acknowledge him and set him as the overseer of the entire Kingdom (Gen. 41:39). Thus, a man of discretion will earn favour and be elevated.

Therefore, practice discretion by being thoughtful about what you say and who you say it to. If you are entrusted with confidential information, be careful who you share it with, and make sure you are only sharing it with those who have a legitimate need to know. This is a sure way to enter into favour.
