“Scriptural Text:
Deuteronomy 30:20 (KJV)
“That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
The pursuit of God should be founded on the realization that He is your life, your Source and sustenance. Just as it would be impossible for you to live without Oxygen in your nostrils, so also can your spirit not survive without God. This is the foundation for a strong and thriving fellowship with God.
Our opening text today goes further to underline the importance of not only fellowshipping with God, but also cleaving unto Him. To cleave is to stick fast to something. It is to become very strongly involved or emotionally attached to someone. This explains in simple terms how we ought to walk with God – intimately, and by choice.
In a world where many are filled with their own ways and confusion, cleaving unto God is a choice each believer must make daily. While others may seek security and fulfillment in various activities, possessions, or achievements, only to discover that they fall short of satisfying the deepest longings of their hearts, by cleaving unto God, we build an intimacy that satisfies the deepest longings of our souls.
By prioritizing intimacy with God, we position ourselves in a place of blessings and favour. In times of plenty and in times of need, give Him a priority in your life by way of setting aside dedicated time for prayer, studying His Word, and seeking His guidance without fail.
Overall, do not allow the needs of life to pull you in different directions or distract you from what really matters. Rather, be steadfast in your pursuit of God, and intentionally seek after Him with all your heart all day long. This is the key to experiencing revival and rejuvenation in all that concerns you.
