GENUINE REPENTANCE.

Read in your own language

“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

2 Corinthians 7:10

The acknowledgment of one’s wrong, and the plea for mercy is not all that there is to genuine repentance. Genuine repentance according to the Scriptures is a kind of repentance produced by godly sorrow. This manner of repentance also works carefulness, indignation, fear, zeal, and a vehement desire to abstain from committing the same sin again. (2 Corinthians 7:10)

So, beyond the admission of guilt, genuine repentance, seek to make amends and to set measures, to prevent possible recurrence of the wrong action. An example of this can be seen in Ezra 10:1-19, where Ezra led the Israelites to genuinely repent before the Lord, for taking unto themselves, strange wives. They did not just confess and weep in repentance before the Lord, but they also set systems in place to separate themselves from the people of the land, and to put away the strange wives.

Therefore, if there is any area you need to repent, determine in your heart not to merely utter repentance, but to also genuinely begin to devise measures to help you abstain from such in the future. It is this kind of repentance that can move God. Halleluyah!
