UNDERSTANDING THE LUST OF THE EYES

Read in your own language

SCRIPTURAL TEXT:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Over time, the concept of the lust of the eyes in the Scriptures has been erroneously confined to refer to looking lustfully with one’s eyes, at a person or an object. However, the lust of the eyes actually refers to the error of challenging the knowledge of God, and the exalting of one’s knowledge above the knowledge of God, as stated in our opening Scripture.

This is also depicted in Genesis 3:1-6, where because of the quest and desire to have knowledge, Eve fell prey to the deceit of the serpent. As captured in our opening scripture, there is the aspect of exalting one’s knowledge above the knowledge of God. Here a person begins to challenge, oppose or antagonize God’s Word in the scriptures. Sadly, this is the norm in the world today, as a great percentage of people criticize, question, discredit and reject principles in God’s word, while trying to promulgate their own theories above the scriptures. How awful!

So, we must be uninterested in the pursuit or display of any knowledge that challenges the existence of God or the principles of His Word. From such we must flee, so that we might not come into eternal damnation.

G. PRAY FOR A COUNTRY IN NEED TODAY: AUSTRIA
Austria has 15% of its population unreached with the Gospel. Young people are more open to the Gospel than the previous generation in Austria, but churches are poorly equipped for effective youth ministry.
PRAY FOR AUSTRIA We are praying for the Christians in Austria that they will demonstrate the power of God everywhere in the nation.

H.PRAY FOR JERUSALEM
Father, I ask today that there will be peace in Jerusalem and that your purposes be established in that city. Amen (Psa. 122:6)
