BE ASSERTIVE

Read in your own language

April 20, 2023

Scriptural Text:
Matthew 5:37 (NKJV)
“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”

Assertiveness is the quality of being self-assured and confident, without being aggressive in order to prove a point. It is also communicating with others in a direct manner.

From our opening scripture, we see that being assertive is the ability to say exactly what you mean, and stand by that word. It is learning to stay true to your values and communicating such without ambiguity. This is a challenge for many persons.

For the fear of being perceived as rude or selfish, some persons allow themselves to be pressured into doing what they should not be doing. In being assertive, it is OK to say “No” to people’s requests sometimes, especially when such requests go against your values, or causes you to derail from what you have set out to achieve.

Many have remained stagnant, stayed in wrong relationships, or taken bad business decisions because they were not assertive, whereas an assertive person is confident to take decisions necessary to move to a new level.

Thus, to become assertive, you must learn to say Yes and No where applicable

🙏 DAILY PRAYER GUIDE
Oh Lord my God, teach me to become stable and rooted in your Word, so I may be firm and assertive in my dealings, in Jesus Name.

🏞️ PRAYER FOR A NATION – NAMIBIA
The Church in Namibia is growing. Partnership between Churches are still a problem, but there are cases where denominations are starting to work together to reach the Northern parts and isolated areas of Namibia. As with many African countries, syncretism is a reality as many people mix their cultural practices with Christianity.

1. Prayer for the nation: Father in the name of Jesus, cause the believers in Namibia to shine as light, turning many unto righteousness, in the name of Jesus.

2. Prayer for the leaders: Father in the name of Jesus, we pray for the government of Namibia that it will favour the course of the Gospel in the nation, in Jesus Name.

🕍PRAYER FOR ISRAEL – ( Psalm 122:6 )
Father, I ask today that there will be peace in Jerusalem and that your purposes be established in that city. Amen

💒 PRAYER FOR UNITY IN THE CHURCH
Father in the name of Jesus, we pray that the body of Christ will grow in the unity of the faith, thus, measuring unto the stature and fullness of Christ, in Jesus Name.

☄️ PRAYER FOR SOULS / REVIVAL
Father in the name of Jesus, we tear down every veil that is covering in the eyes of the unsaved in our city from seeing the light of Christ in Jesus name.

  1. Another valuable topic. Thank you my prophet, you always have a way to confirm some decisions. Sometimes, one would want to say No to something felt not to be right but due to what people would say as a Christian you are left handicap. But this topic from you has changed my mindset knowing it’s not wrong to say N in order to keep one’s integrity God bless you sir

  2. Lord give me the grace to stand my ground in every situation that comes my way 🙏🏾. Help me to speak politely with boldness, and to not do anything that is contrary to your word and my belief 🙇🏾‍♀️

Growing up, I used to be one who was afraid of hurting people’s feelings, creating scenes and making people feel bad at the detriment of what I believe in and my set goals. I couldn’t say no or yes where appropriate because I don’t want the concerned party to feel bad but thank God for making me find and be in Gospel Pillars Ministry which has remodelled me and reshaped my thought pattern over time. I have become better, stronger and I’ve come to understand that pity party does not win election.

Being true to what you believe and who you are in the light of God’s word is actually the best way to live your life and make it count.

Thank you Lord for your word to me today, help me to be assertive at all times🙏

  7. Thank you for today’s devotional my Prophet.

In effort to please people and the need to want to be accepted, some have said yes to what they should have said no to. I remember when the fear to be seen as bothering, meant drinking and going to clubs, which is not a person personality trait.

  8. This word is indeed timely. Just yesterday I said yes into buying something I knew I did not want because of a slight emotional pressure from the seller. Truthfully I did not even know when I said Yes. Lol.

However, I am learning everyday even with this word today to learn how to say no, more importantly saying no confidently without being rude.

  9. Wow! The topics for the devotional each day are always on point ! Personally put together to help Personal development! Thanks My Prophet for investing in us through the devotional. I pledge to be committed to reading and practicing the devotional daily!

  11. Many people don’t know that No is a whole language on its own, and feel bad if they are to use it. It ought not to be so. You don’t have to please others to the deferment of your values. I like today’s message 🥰

  12. It’s amazing how the devotional each day teaches one not just spiritually but socially and otherwise. Indeed,I can be assertive, self assured without been rude and selfish. I will begin to practice this more often in my daily endeavors. Thank You Prophet for this clarity!

Today’s devotional is a manual for my life and anyone who wants to succeed. Many times we make wrong decisions because of the fear of not hurting others feelings and there by hurting ourselves by deraying from our God’s giving purpose and destiny. Been truthful to oneself is important in our journey to success. God bless you my prophet for this revelation.

For me I must confess that I love this topic so much because I like to live my life in this way. Standing by my words. I can’t change it because I want to please someone else.
Most people makes that mistake of pleasing people and displeasing themselves, and regret it later

  18. In order to be Firm, True and Assertive in our doings, one ought to be knowledgeable convinced in his decision or choice regarding any situation, and in position where one is not certain, it’s wise to either seek knowledge or stay quiet. Allowing oneself to be literally pressured into making decision we ought not to, is a week minded perspective of agreement.

  20. The word today is a very good lesson. Thank you my prophet for this great lesson.

‘Assertiveness is the quality of being self-assured and confident, without being aggressive in order to prove a point. It is also communicating with others in a direct manner’. Being assertive comes with being truthful to yourself and others. Most people think being assertive is being rude. Most of my life I’ve been pressured to do what I don’t want to. I had the understanding that if I don’t do what people want, I won’t be fair and they might end up thinking of me as bad person. I thank God for growth and wisdom I’ve received so far from my leaders. Lord help me to be assertive always🙏

  22. What a ropic today. Assertiveness is a critical skill that helps us being us. Many have lost that sense of their individuality cos they lack this skill. We need the wisdom of God to logically present our values to get those around allign to my value as it supports the overall goal. 24. Awesome topic… I for one see this as not changing stance on matters especially when you know its right. Being assertive shouldn’t be seen as being rude or disrespectful but should be a plus to one’s charity that should make his stand out. For me it’s integrity here…

Thank you Prophet for this insightful one

  25. Thank you my prophet for teaching me everyday… It’s really good to be known for a particular thing. Some people are like unstable water, they’re not known for anything just because they don’t want others to be hurt, meanwhile, they’re not happy.

In every situation that doesn’t pleases, they will still be yes when they’re suppose to say no just because they don’t want offend the other person.

I have been in that situation several times, but now, my YES will be my Yes while my NO be my NO.

Thank you gospel pillars and my wonderful prophet.
