Our opening text today details David’s prayer to God in a time of distress. He pleads for God’s protection, asking to be kept as the “apple of His eye” and to be hidden in the shadow of His wings. This analogy is powerful and comforting, reminding us of God’s care and protection for His children.

The phrase “apple of your eye” is a statement of endearment, signifying something or someone very precious. Just as a mother bird shields her young under her wings, God covers us with His love and protection. In the shadow of His wings, we find refuge from the storms of life.

Likewise, in your own life, especially when you face trials and tribulations that seem insurmountable and make you feel vulnerable, be reminded that you are precious in God’s sight, and He is your sure and faithful refuge.

Walk in this consciousness today, with confidence in the immutable character of God to protect and keep you safe. Though there be arrows that fly by day, and terrors in the night, the One who watches over you is faithful to hide you under His wings.
