THE COURAGE TO REPENT

Read in your own language

June 15, 2023

“Scriptural Text:
Luke 15:17 (KJV)
“And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!”

It takes courage to face the truth about ourselves, to acknowledge our sins, and to turn away from them. This is what repentance is about, and it is through that process that we find liberation, restoration, and a renewed relationship with our Heavenly Father.

The story of the ‘prodigal son’ speaks volume about life in sin; it never gets better (Luke 15:15-16). Our opening text today however talks about the son’s attitude at the point of self-realization. The Bible says he came to himself and said, ‘even my father’s servants live in better conditions than this’. And when he did return, his father was waiting with open arms (Luke 15:20).

It is impossible to hold guilt or unforgiveness in your heart and still have a healthy walk with God at the same time. This is because both guilt and unforgiveness eat up your confidence before God, making you withdraw further and further away from His Grace into condemnation. What is worth your peace with God? Absolutely nothing! Nothing compares to the assurance you have in Christ, both in this world and that which is to come.

Therefore, get up like the son in our text today, and restore your relationship with God. Give up that hurt or malice, repent of your sins and return into His embrace (1John 1:9). Let nothing keep you away from the love of your Father!
